A loan of $975 helped to buy herbicides and pay for the workers he will contract to clean up his fields.

Juanito's story

Juanito is 47 years old. His partner is Elena, with whom he has seven children, but they now live only with three of them. His house is simple, but it is his own.

For the past 20 years, he has grown plantains, annatto and coffee, on lands he acquired through great effort. What he would like is to have enough money to buy himself a ranch, because he loves agricultural work. His father was the one who taught him all of the agricultural techniques he practices today, and he is teaching his children with great pride, so that the family tradition is not lost. For the work on his fields, he has help from his wife and his children, because the good earnings they receive from farming are enough to live comfortably and also to pay for some expenses. His plans for the near future are to improve his production, and for this reason he will invest in acquiring more seeds and fertilizers.

This is loan number 6 for him with MFP, and he is grateful for the confidence placed in him during these years. He belongs to the "Unión Orito” communal bank, where he is one of the founding members.

Juanito will invest the money in buying herbicides and in paying workers whom he will contract to clean up his fields.
