Meet Mery, the president of the Trabajando en Armonia group. Mery has worked as a seamstress for 20 years. Initially she wanted to study languages, but her friends were working in sewing and they encouraged her to learn it too. She started by helping them with small services and grew to have her own business. Currently, Mery has a workshop in her home where she does clothing repairs and makes clothing to order. She spends about five hours each afternoon doing this work.

In the mornings, Mery has a volunteer job at the Vaso de Leche in her town. Vaso de Leche (Glass of Milk) is a government program that provides breakfast to children and seniors with few resources. Mery helps to prepare the breakfasts along with other women. The program receives only milk from the government, so to be able to offer the children a full breakfast, Mery and her friends have organized to purchase bread and other items.

Mery will use a part of this loan to fix a sewing machine and the rest to purchase fabric.

Mery is married and has four children. Two of them are studying at the university and the other two are in school. In the future, Mery would like to have a store that is open to the public and hire people to work with her. She hopes to continue working with Edaprospo to achieve her goal. Mery is thankful for your support!

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
