A loan of $925 helped a member to buy more maize to sell.

Zulaina's Group's story

Zulaina's Group includes seven hardworking women. Zulaina is 17 years old and lives in the town of Rukoki in the Fort Portal region of Uganda. For the past three years, Zulaina has been working hard to manage her small business of selling maize.

To help expand her business, Zulaina has requested a loan of 500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more maize to sell and will help Zulaina to generate greater profits. This will help her parents pay the school fees for her younger siblings.

Zulaina is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to micro-finance loans, the program provides a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
