A loan of $450 helped a member to buy fertilizer and seed for planting vegetables.

Sinat's Group's story

Living in a rural area of the Ek Phnom district of Battambang province, Cambodia, Sinat is 27 years old and a married mother of three sons, all of whom are still in school and dependent on her. She makes a living through planting cucumbers and cabbages, and supplements the family’s income by raising chickens. She has engaged in this business for one year. Her husband works for others for a fee.

Low crop yield caused by flooding is the main challenge for her business. This is the second loan cycle for Sinat with Kiva partner VisionFund, and the first loan cycle for her fellow group member. The past loan helped her in having sufficient food and supporting her children’s education. Now leading her group of two in this loan request, Sinat will use her portion to buy fertilizer and seed for planting vegetables and to buy chickens and piglets for raising to earn extra income. She hopes this loan will enable her to expand her current business so as to improve her standard of living and keep the children in school.
