A loan of $575 helped to buy natural fertilizer to spread in her potato and maize fields.

Marisol's story

Marisol is 45 years old and lives with her parents and younger sister in her mother’s house. She has 23 years of experience selling groceries. Her store is one of the longest-established in her area. Her principal economic activity, however, is farming and she has 15 years of experience cultivating products such as peas, corn, potatoes and alfalfa (basically as feed for her animals). Her agricultural lands are a bequest from her mother and during the planting season she contracts laborers to help her work the land. During the harvest she sells her products to buyers who come to her, however there are seasons when the price falls and she has to take her crops to sell at the market. She belongs to the San Santiago Communal Bank and this is her eleventh loan from MFP. Thus she is grateful for the loan since she will be able to invest in her business. She promises to make her payments on time and enjoys working with her group since all are her neighbors and they are mutually supportive of one another. Marisol will invest this money in the purchase of natural fertilizers to spread in her potato and maize fields.
