A loan of $775 helped to buy several sacks of natural fertilizer for his potato and lima bean crops.

Mario's story

Mario, 35, and his wife René have three children. They live in a rented house where they have been for two years. He enjoys crop farming, especially when learning new things as an agronomy engineer. "A neighbor of mine sells natural fertilizer and he teaches us how to improve our crops with natural, organic products.", he says. He has been in agriculture for ten years and owns the land he farms on. His main crops are potatoes, corn, lima beans and carrots, but since he has run out of space he must rent more land. At harvest time he sells his produce at the wholesale market in the city, but sometimes he sells back on his land, "It all depends on the purchase price.", he says. Now he wants to rent the space he had at the market in the city, to earn more money.

This is his second loan through MFP and he is grateful for the economic support that allows him to improve business. Also, he is learning to save in his communal bank, where the members are responsible and supportive.

Mario will invest the money in several sacks of natural fertilizer to spread on his potato and lima bean crops.
