Lecheritas Group's story

The community bank "Lecheritas" is starting its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer, working through the institution's regional office in Patacamata. The group is comprised of eleven members, and is overseen by a board of directors, of which Lorenza is the president. The group members are involved in a variety of businesses, including growing and selling carrots and other vegetables, dairy farming, and buying and selling livestock. This loan will benefit these small micro-businesses, including that of Lorenza. She reports that this is the first time the group is working with Pro Mujer. She was invited by a member of Pro Mujer who went to her house to visit her. Currently she has a milk production business. She has been doing this work for six years, along with her husband. They started the business together. She will use her portion of the loan funds for working capital to purchase livestock. She will buy the livestock in a nearby community and will then raise the animals. This work will allow her to generate income to support her family as much as possible. She is married and has four children. When she was asked what she liked about Pro Mujer, she said that she likes the ease with which a loan can be obtained.
