A loan of $625 helped to buy ingredients and supplies.

Tobias's story

Tobías, 65, works preparing food and selling soft-drinks, a business that arose when having moved from his place of birth he needed to find a way to earn a living. He was employed by a firm but did not earn enough so he decided to open his own business. He got a kiosk and making use of a friend who worked for a soft-drink firm he was able to get a cooler.

Because Tobías’ business has been located strategically in a business area his sales rose and gradually he moved forward. During 22 years’ experience Tobías buys everything he’s going to need very early in the morning and he opens his doors for business at 8am and goes until 6pm Monday through Saturday. His sales are 13% credit and 87% cash. His main customers are employees of surrounding firms that sell compressors, auto parts, etc.

His goal is to further develop his business diversifying his products more all the time to increase his clientele and the economic stability he requires so that later on he can acquire a house of his own. He’s currently applying for a Kiva loan, his first financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo that he will use to buy foodstuffs and ingredients to prepare his dishes in large amounts thus qualifying for discounts and avoid daily transportations costs and the task of having to make frequent purchases which is what will make his Kiva loan successful.
