A loan of $325 helped to purchase ten sacks of natural fertilizer to use on her crops of corn.

Fortunata's story

Fortunata is 63 years old and is married to Jorge. They have six children together, and currently only one, Alexander, lives with them. She owns her home, which she inherited from her mother. She works with her husband. Every morning they head out to their plots of farm land. She has five years of experience growing corn, potatoes, and barley, which they sell in the city at the Sunday market. They own the plots of land they farm, since over all these years of hard work they were able to save up what they needed in order to have security in their old age. “I enjoy farming. It is what I learned as a child. My parents taught me how to work and live off the land," she says. That is why she wants to improve her production and continue on with the same energy so that she can keep farming. She belongs to the solidarity group Nuevo Amanecer, and this is her fifth loan with MFP. During all this time (over two years) she obtained the money she needed to invest in her development, so she promises to pay her installments timely. She also enjoys being a part of her group, where all the members are responsible and supportive people. Fortunata will invest the money from this loan in the purchase of ten sacks of natural fertilizer, which she will use on her crops of corn.
