Maria's story

Maria is 38 years old and married to Isaac, with whom she has two children, Joel and Margot. They have been living in a rented home for 8 years.

Her 7 years of experience in farming and stockbreeding helped them to earn the income necessary to support their children and educate them. Her principle crops consist of corn, potatoes and barley which she cultivates on their own land located in the surrounding area. She is grateful for the help she is receiving, which enables her to use working capital without neglecting family expenses. The animals she is raising are sheep and pigs, which she fattens to sell at Sunday markets. She greatly enjoys her work and plans to increase her working capital in order to produce in greater volume.

Maria belongs to the “Nuevo amanecer” Communal Bank and this is her seventh loan from MFP. In all of this time (more than three years), she obtained the money needed to invest in the development of her business and thus promises to be punctual in making her payments. In addition, she likes belonging to her group, where all the people are responsible. She will invest the money in the purchase of natural fertilizer to spread in her maiz fields. She will also buy five sheep.
