A loan of $1,000 helped to buy chickens.

Rosa Margarita's story

Rosa has been a member of the communal bank "Mujeres Solidarias" for 2 years and has lived all her life in the town of Chican in Paute canton. The canton has a temperate climate, and its lands, on which much fruit is cultivated, are very fertile. Conditions are also excellent for growing the most beautiful flowers. The people are friendly and very kind. They work daily at a variety of jobs to provide for their families while maintaining the culture and traditions of their communtities.

Rosa, 28, spends most of her time working in her home. She is married and from her marriage has two children, ages 8 and 6, who are students at the small public school. Her husband is a day laborer, and they own the house in which they live. She helps her husband with the farmwork and sells the harvest in her community. She also raises chickens, guinea pigs, and cattle. Sometimes, she cleans houses or does laundry for others. This loan will be used to buy chickens to increase her stock. Her goal is to expand her business raising animals.
