A loan of $700 helped to buy vegetables and legumes.

María Del Carmen's story

María is on her sixth loan with the communal bank "Mujeres Solidarias." She lives in the community of Chican, which is part of the canton of Paute. This canton has a temperate climate, and its very fertile soils produce large quantities of fruit; they are also favorable for the cultivation of the most beautiful flowers. The people are very kind and courteous. They work every day at different activities to support their families, while maintaining the culture and traditions of their people.

María is a very young woman, barely 25 years old. She is married, and she and her husband have two children, ages seven and two. Her oldest child is a student in a little school in their town. Her husband works as a private-sector employee and they own the house they live in.

To help her husband with household expenses, María works in agriculture and sells what she grows. She has also been buying vegetables and legumes and selling them in a local market for nine years. At home, on top of being available for her family, she also raises chickens, pigs, and cattle to sell in her community.

She will invest her new loan in the purchase of vegetables and legumes so she can grow her business.

Her goal is to improve her house.
