A loan of $400 helped to buy coffee plants.

Maria Lucia Rogelia's story

Maria Lucia Rogelia has been working as a farmer since she was young. Her father taught her all she needed to know about growing coffee; and when she got married she continued her work alongside her husband, Juan, with whom she had three children. Years later her husband passed away but she has continued until now to produce coffee, corn and beans. Her children are married, however one of them still helps her on the plantation, since the work is hard and she cannot do it alone.

The coffee she produces is organic and does not use fertilizers that contain chemicals. During the last harvest she produced 2,400 tons of coffee, but would like to increase it to 3,000 over the next few years. To meet her goal she is requesting a loan, since her previous loans have given her good results. She also tells us that after the next harvest she would like to put two new windows in her house to have more light and save on electric energy.
