A loan of $1,150 helped to buy four bags of pea seeds and fertiliser.

Nilda's story

Nilda is 32. She has three children with her partner, Javier. The family have their own house, which was built in an agricultural area in Peru’s Selva Central region.

Nilda has worked in agriculture for 10 years – the same amount of time she has been with her partner. They share the responsibility for looking after their land, where they grow peas, lettuce and potatoes. “The peas and the potatoes are profitable, in season, so I sow these products more”, she says enthusiastically. She has a good relationship with Javier, who helps her with all the agricultural activities. While he works in the fields, Nilda has her own tasks – bringing out meals for him and the labourers. In this way the couple reap the benefits of their hard work at each harvest: their sales are good. At the moment they are about to sow more potatoes and peas.

This will be Nilda’s fifth loan with MFP and she is also a member of the community bank “Lindo amanecer de Cumutay”, where she is an efficient treasurer. She recently renewed her pledge to make the repayments and attend the community bank’s meetings.

Nilda will invest the loan of 3000 PEN by buying four bags of pea seeds for 2200 PEN and using what is left over to purchase fertilisers.
