A loan of $575 helped to buy fertilizer for his coffee crop.

Wilder's story

Wilder is 34 years old. He and his wife Teresa have five children, ages 17, 16, 13, 11, and 3. They live together in a house that Wilber built in a community in the central jungle

He has been a farmer for 17 years and thanks to this he has been able to provide his children with what they need. He has six parcels of farmland, where he raises citrus fruits, coffee, and achiote. He gives priority to the fruit because it’s the easiest crop to harvest and he can do it quickly and often. He also says that achiote provides good earnings and he is waiting for October to arrive so he can harvest. “Last year the price was 6 PEN per kilo and that was a good price. I expect this year that the price will be the same or more,” he says.

This will be his second loan through MFP and he gives us his word that he will be on time with his payments. He is a member of the “Flor de Almendra” communal bank where he shares his experiences with the other members, thanks to the educational chats.

He will use the money from this loan to buy sacks of organic fertilizers for his coffee crop.
