Good Day! Accept warm greetings from all your friends here in Peru. Today we present to you “Los Quinuales - Concepción” Communal Bank, which is made up of eight members who have known each other for more than a year.

One of the members of this group is Clotilde, 56, who has 3 children. Eight years ago she was widowed and had to assume the responsibilities of her household alone. Thanks to her efforts she was able to educate her children and has one who is in the university. She is a hardworking woman who knew how to move her children ahead with the income she earned by selling groceries, which is her principal business. She also works in the orchard in her community in the afternoons. She will use the loan to purchase the merchandise she will sell in her small store, such as rice, sugar, milk, noodles, etc.

Clotilde is very happy because people who are not from her country are very interested in her story and in the dreams that each one of the members of her group has. For that she wants to thank each one of the members of Kiva and the team at Edaprospo for collaborating in her progress.

Clotilde is the first person from the left in the photo. On the upper left side are Fabiola, wearing a lilac sweater, and Lupe with a turquoise turtleneck.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
