Young Women Group's story

Meet with members of the "Young Women" group from Makeni, a city in Northern Sierra Leone. This group of entrepreneurs has come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, to apply for a loan of 700,000.00 Sierra Leonean Leones for each in the group. With the help of this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their respective businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group is 25-year-old Fatima. Born in Makeni city, Fatima is married to a trader and the couple has three children, one of whom is in primary school, while the others are not yet of school-going age. Fatima has been selling second-hand bags for 10 years now, and with her share of this new loan, she will buy a bale of used bags to add to her business.

Imported used items (like bags, shoes, clothes, vehicles, etc.) are very popular amongst the locals in Sierra Leone, as they are cheaper than new items.

In this group: Fatima, Mariatu, Isatu, Rugiatu, Maseray
