A loan of $3,425 helped a member to buy more stock of charcoal.

Tafuta Upate Group's story

Arafa, who is in her late 30s, is married and has one son who is in school. She has had a business selling charcoal for about four years now. She works from 7.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. daily and is able to make a good monthly profit.

This will be her fourth loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. Arafa used the previous loans to buy more bags of charcoal and to pay her son's school fees. She has paid all her loans successfully. She wants a loan to increase her businesses stock. Her dream is to one day be able to sell more bags of charcoal in different areas.

She will share this loan with her loan group “Tafuta Upate,” which has a total of 12 members who will hold each other accountable for paying back the loan.
