A loan of $975 helped to improve his house by reinforcing the walls and hanging doors.

Jose Vicente's story

Jose is a hardworking man who lives in Santiago district in Ica, Perú. The district of Santiago has a warm and welcoming climate. The main industries are farming and raising livestock. Some agricultural export-import companies are located here and provide jobs to residents. Jose lives with his wife, with whom he has 5 children. Though they are now adults, his children have been his reason for getting ahead and, above all, God's greatest gift to him. In his free time, he likes to walk through the fields because they are a distraction and very soothing. Jose was only able to complete fifth grade due to his financial situation, but he would have liked to study mechanical engineering.

Jose works every day as a watchman for a farming cooperative in his district. He works for about 10 hours each day and feels that he is doing well in his job because he has a great desire to get ahead.

Jose is very grateful to Kiva lenders because their support will allow him to make improvements to his house like reinforcing the walls and hanging steel doors. This way he can offer his family a better life and continue working to make his dream a reality: "To have farmland to plant."
