A loan of $1,475 helped buy forage (soya hulls) for feeding his cattle and growing his dairy business, in order to buy land and construct his own house.

Efrain's story

Efrain is 34 years old, lives in a common-law marriage, and has 2 school-age children. He and Betty reside in La Maica zone, at Parada 10, a milk-producing area some 8 kilometers from the city. They have 6 milk cows and make cheese for sale, village to village. Both were born in the zone and have only a primary school education.

They need operating capital to buy forage (soy bean hulls) to feed their cattle. This is the season when cattle-raisers store feed for the rest of the year. Efrain's activities have grown somewhat and he wishes to continue that growth in order to improve conditions of life for all the family. They live in the house of his in-laws.

Efrain wants to purchase land and thus be able to construct a dwelling, since currently, his family only has 2 rooms. As a brick layer, he could do the construction himself without the very high costs of hiring laborers.
