A loan of $500 helped to buy sugar, maize flour and cereals wholesale.

Claris's story

Claris lives in the Mariakani area of Coast province, Kenya. She is married and has seven children; six of whom are in school. She owns a retail shop, which she has been operating for ten years. She started the business through "merry-go-round" contributions*** and her brother’s savings.
She learnt about Milango through a friend with an aim of accessing credit to improve the business operations. The challenge she is facing is high transport cost and seasonal weather fluctuations.
Claris is applying for a loan of 41,900 Kenya shillings to buy sugar, maize flour and cereals wholesale. The extra income from the loan will be added to her savings to lift her living standard and for personal use. Her plan for the future is to sell wholesale.
