Violeta is married and has two adult children. She lives in Kosovo but her husband currently lives in Germany. She recently moved into new house in a small village. She and her family had lived in a small house before the move, but there life was very difficult for all of them both financially and emotionally. Violeta’s brother helped them build their new home.

Violeta makes a living by raising cows, which is the main source of income for her family. She started this business by selling milk in her neighborhood. “I am very pleased with this business because I have my reduced family’s costs while increasing our income,” said Violeta. Proudly she claims that she has been the only one who has financially supported her family.

Now that her life has been greatly improved, she is requesting a loan to buy cow and calf. This is Violeta's first loan. She wants to expand her business and save for her youngest child’s university expenses. She is aware that without Kiva lenders, her goal will be difficult to achieve. Violeta is very appreciative for the help.

More information about this loan

This loan will support the economic aspirations of minority people in Kosovo. Roma people and ethnic Serbians have historically faced a tremendous amount of hardship in Kosovo, and are still socioeconomically and politically vulnerable. During the 1998-1999 war, the fighting displaced 250,000 people. Among those displaced were an estimated 80-90% of the region’s Roma population. Today, Roma and ethnic Serbians living in Kosovo still face discrimination and are excluded from many aspects of society, including fair political representation and high rates of unemployment. By supporting this loan you are helping provide opportunity to marginalized populations.
