Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,150 helped to buy automobile spare parts.

Doris Hortencia's story

Doris is a member of the “Mujeres Perseverantes” (Persevering Women) communal bank in Coronel Portillo District, Ucayali Department. She’s 27-years-old, married and has three children.

She’s been working with Manuela Ramos loans for six years. She has quite a formal business. She sells auto spare parts and provides auto repair services; she has an expert in the field on hand.

She will use her new, 3,000 new sol, loan to buy six headlamps, six light covers, a box of light bulbs, one suspension, a gear box, four brakes, a dozen belts, a box of spark plugs, a box of brake fluid and two complete differentials.

Her business is located at home. The good thing is that she works alongside her husband. They take turns watching the business. When they need to pay suppliers she usually takes care of that. She hopes to continue working to equip her business more. She’s happy with Manuela Ramos for giving her the opportunity to move her business and her family forward.
