A loan of $775 helped to buy fabric, shoes, and rice to resell.

Émilie's story

The Banc Villageois Santhiaba Centre Mame Fatou Wade has been in existence since December 27, 2010; Mrs. Émilie, beneficiary of a Special Loan, has been a member since its inauguration and is on her fourth loan.

Émilie is 58 years old, married, and the mother of ten children. She is a seamstress with her own workshop at home, and on the side she also sells rice, clothing, and shoes. She buys rice in Walo, fabric in Dakar, and the clothing and shoes are from Morocco.

With her loan, Émilie will buy fabric, shoes, and bags of rice in large enough quantities to resell and increase her income. Out of these profits, she sets aside money each month in savings in the Banc Villageois, contributes to her family's expenses, and hopes to become financially independent.
