A loan of $400 helped to buy natural fertilizers for her cacao plants and coca leaves.

Rita's story

Rita is 39 years old and is a very hardworking woman. Her partner is Nerón, 44, with whom she has a son, Roy, 15, to whom she hopes to give a better future. She and Nerón produce cacao and coca leaves. They have been engaged in this work for 12 years and have their own land. What she most enjoys about her work is harvesting the fruit, because then she feels that the months of hard work have finally paid off. They contract laborers to help expedite the harvest. Nevertheless, the most difficult part is transporting their bags of crops from their small farm to the city where she markets them because it is located a half hour away and the bags are very heavy. Her other problem is not being able to depend on enough money to pay the workers in advance for their help with the harvest. Thus she has applied for loans.

This is Rita’s tenth loan from MFP and she knows this money will help her greatly in carrying out her work. In her communal bank, she is much loved by the other members. With the S/. 1,000 requested, she will purchase natural fertilizers for her cacao plants and coca leaves.
