Alex's story

Alex was born in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas, an Ecuadorian city that is located between the Ecuadorian highlands and coast. The city is a link for several Ecuadorian cities as Santo Domingo plays an important role for Ecuadorian commerce. The city makes up the majority of the livestock market for the country. Santo Domingo has a humid climate with an average temperature between 18°C and 28°C. The city is home to the Tsachilas, an ethnic group that mantains traditions including in their dress, language and customs since before colonial times. At 33 years of age, Alex has a business managing livestock. He has some cows and uses this resources for general earnings. He is married and has two small children that currently attend primary school. Despite the fact that Alex works more than 6 hours every day of the week to move his resources forward and increase his earnings, he does not have enough cows to generate greater earnings. As such, through Fundacion Alternativa, he is requesting a loan from Kiva to be able to buy another cow to increase his product and in turn, also increase his earnings. In this way he will be able to give his children a more dignified life and fulfill his dream of being the owner of his own home.
