A loan of $1,000 helped to buy fruit to sell.

Rosa's story

Rosa is an active member of the communal bank Bankito Progresista, which she has belonged to for 3 years. She has lived in Cuenca for 5 years and is originally from the city of Riobamba. She worked on a farm there but in order to improve her economic situation she has taken the risk of moving to another city, far from her family, in order to help them get ahead.

Rosa is 49 years old, married and has an 18 year old son who works and helps the family financially. Her husband works selling various seasonal products. They don't own a home so he lives in a rental.

Since she arrived to Cuenca, Rosa has worked as a street vendor. She used to sell sunglasses and other accessories but a year ago she began selling seasonal fruit. This line of work gives her the opportunity to improve her family's financial situation. Rosa will use the loan to buy fruit in order to offer a greater variety to her customers. Her goal is to buy a piece of land in the city and build a small house.
