Juan Elias
Juan is a young man of 18. He lives with his parents and siblings in the city of Chincha. Despite being so young, he is very hard-working and enthusiastic, with a great desire for self-improvement.

Unfortunately, because of the need to work and help his parents to meet their expenses, he has still not been able to pursue post-secondary education. But he dreams of being able to do so. In his free time he likes to relax by listening to a little music, and sometimes he cooks a very delicious "carapulcra con sopa seca" (traditional Peruvian dish made with noodles and dried potatoes), to share with his family.

With a great deal of effort and enthusiasm, Juan works day to day in a textile company in his city. He works approximately 12 hours daily in shifts. Sometimes he may work at night, and at other times during the day. He feels happy doing his work, and his supervisors think highly of him for his good performance and his friendliness.

Juan is very grateful to the Kiva lenders, as thanks to the help provided, he will be able to undertake home improvements. He wishes to do roofing and fencing at his home. This way Juan hopes to be able to offer greater security and well-being to his family. He hopes to continue doing his very best and helping his family to get ahead in life.

About Caja Rural Señor de Luren

Caja Rural Señor de Luren is a microfinance institution based in Ica in southern Peru that primarily promotes the development of the country’s agricultural sector through lending. Today, it also offers credit for consumers, microenterprises and housing improvements, and has expanded its financial services to promote micro-savings and provide micro-insurance. This institution has been instrumental in helping borrowers recover from the devastating earthquake in the Ica region in 2007, and works with Peru’s National Bank to reach some of the poorest and most remote microfinance clients in the country.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
