A loan of $1,000 helped to buy clothing, perfumes, creams, cosmetics and spare parts for her taxi.

Bella Alegría's story

The communal bank La Sirena meets every 15 days in the neighborhood of La Sirena in the city of Manta. It is a city known for its beautiful beaches which are visited throughout the year, and for being a city of singular beauty with many tourist attractions.

Here we meet Bella, 55, who is married and has two adult, independent children. Her husband works for a company in the city.

She is a homemaker who, in order to earn her own living to help her husband with household expenses, sells clothes by catalogue and Yanbal products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfume and women's accessories). She works three days a week, two to three hours a day, and delivers her products on credit, collecting payment every eight days. She and her husband also bought a taxi with their savings and it gives them a good income. They pay someone to drive it and have been in business for eight years, and it is going very well.

This loan is to buy clothing, perfumes, creams, cosmetics and spare parts for her taxi. This is her fourth loan cycle with the communal bank and she likes it because of the easy payment terms.

Her goal is to buy another taxi.
