A loan of $1,075 helped to buy more chickens.

Carmen's story

Carmen was born in 1965, in Santo Domingo, Ecuador. Santo Domingo is a city that has gone through rapid growth in the last few years due to its strategic location for tourism and the country's trade. Located where the coast and the sierra meet, Santo Domingo is also characterized as being a multicultural center where people of different ethnicities from inside and even outside the country meet and share their cultures and traditions. Santo Domingo has a warm tropical cliimate suitable for agriculture, cattle ranching and poultry raising.

Carmen is asking for a loan for the first time. She needs it to buy more chickens and to fix the barn where she keeps them. She works an average of 10 hours a day and receives help from her husband and children when they have some free time. For Carmen it has been very difficult to start up her own business. She only has a primary school education and that is why many opportunities have been closed to her. If Carmen receives this loan, it will help her to make more income and bring her closer to her dream of having her own poultry farm.
