A loan of $625 helped a member to purchase fertilizer and to pay for plowing.

Benkadi 4 Group's story

The members of the group BENKADI 4 are married women averaging 33 years of age and six children. They all live in polygamous families in Loutana, a village in SIKASSO (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). The women are collaborating with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to carry out their farm work during the rainy season. They are on their second loan with the institution. The past loan was indeed paid back.

The crop grown is sorghum, as is the case with ADIARRA, who is seated first from the left in the photo. With her loan, she intends to purchase fertilizer and to pay for plowing to maintain 1.5 hectares. After the harvest, the produce is sold in the village and at the SIKASSO market to a customer base composed of men and women.

ADIARRA plans on making an average profit of 180,000 francs CFA per planting. This loan will enable her to repay her loan and also to help out her husband in covering day-to-day expenses.
