A loan of $900 helped a member to buy fertilizer and pay for plowing.

Benkadi 3 Group's story

The members of the Benkadi 3 group are married women, averaging 39 years old with 5 children. They all live in polygamous families in Loutana, a village in Sikasso, the third administrative region of Mali. They work with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso so that they can carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. This is their second loan with the institution, and the previous loan has been repaid. Kadiatou, standing in the middle of the photo, grows sorghum. With her loan, she will pay for plowing and fertilizer to maintain 1.25 hectares. The harvest is sold in the village and at the Sikasso market to both male and female customers. Kadiatou expects to make an average profit of 140,000 francs CFA per season. These profits will allow her to repay her loan and also to help her husband with their everyday living expenses.
