A loan of $1,300 helped to buy supplies and equipment for her beauty salon.

Maria's story

María’s a member of the “Villa Unida” communal bank belonging to San Javier commune located in the city of Linares. Her line of work for the last 8 months has been a beauty salon. She took some special courses that allowed her to perfect her skills and to start her business, specifically haircuts, hair styling and hair coloring.

María works in the beauty salon Monday through Sunday from 9am until 7:30pm. When she needs to do any errands she hires an assistant to watch the shop which is located downtown. She buys her merchandise from a supplier that specializes in hair products. She will use the loan to buy a beauty salon station, hair color, shampoo, creams and hairspray.

One of María’s business goals is to hire a trustworthy person to work with in a stable way. She also wants to enlarge her shop to include other beauty services in order to generate higher income leading to a better quality of life.

María lives with her spouse since her children are all grown now and have formed their own families. Her dream at a work level is to work in her beauty salon located downtown mornings and to work evenings from home.

She’s very happy and grateful for the opportunity Fondo Esperanza is giving her because it will allow her to invest in her business. She comments that the training has been fundamental for her business and also for her personal development because she’s learned to organize and better distribute her income and investments.
