A loan of $1,725 helped a member to buy fertilizer for her farm.

Nhanh's Group's story

Nhanh is 30 years old and married. Her family consists of five people: herself, her husband, and her three children and together they are living in a rural area located in the Moung Russey district of Battambang Province. She is responsible for all of her children as they are too young to attend school. In order to manage the daily basic needs of the entire family, she has been engaged in growing a rice crop on eight hectares of farmland for five years and her husband helps her to earn extra income via fishing. From the current business and the dual income, she can earn about 20,000 KHR and save about 10,000 KHR after the necessary expenses are deducted. The main challenge for her is the low crop yields caused by drought. This is Nhanh’s group microloan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She is the group leader of the group, which consists of five female members. This is her third loan. Three members are on their fourth loan and the remaining one is on her sixth loan. With success, the past two loans that she has completely repaid have helped her not only to grow her crop but also to relieve her family’s burden and improve its livelihood. With a good business, she is seeking a new loan of KHR 1,400,000, the same amount as the other four members. She will use her loan to buy fertilizers and gasoline for pumping water for her farmland. She hopes that this loan will enable her to increase her family’s income to make a better living.
