A loan of $1,125 helped to convert his conventional coffee production to organic coffee.

Úrsulo's story

Ever since he was very little Úrsulo liked to work in the field. It was his parents who taught him how to grow coffee. As the years passed he was acquiring a lot of experience. He currently receives training from the Unión Regional de Huatusco to be able to take maximum advantage of the land and resources that he has.

The coffee that Úrsulo produces is conventional, and he wants to convert all of his plants to organic coffee. He wants to do this because organic coffee does not use chemical fertilizers, and it has a greater market value. During the last harvest he had a production of six tons.

In order to continue producing at this level he needs to buy coffee plants to renew the old ones. That is why he is requesting a loan. In addition to growing coffee, on the week-ends Úrsulo sells pork in order to have an extra income. He mostly does this during the times when the coffee is barely giving fruit.

Úrsulo and his wife, Obdulia, have as one of their biggest dreams giving their three children a university education. They know that working as they have been up until now will make this be possible.
