Ny is a 37-year-old married woman who is responsible for two sons, both of whom are dependent on her and still enrolled in school.
Ny and her husband struggle to feed their children in the rural area of Kampong Cham province’s Dambae district, where rice farming is the source of her family’s income on a 0.5-hectare area of farmland. They supplement the family income by planting cassava on a two-hectare piece of farmland. They have been in this business for several years to make their living. Together, they are able to earn 27,800 KHR per day to meet the family’s needs.
This is Ny’s fifth loan cycle with VisionFund and she definitely repaid the past loans. She has used the past loans to relieve family’s burdens and to improve the family's livelihood. Now she is asking for a loan of 2,500,000 KHR from VisionFund. Ny will use this loan to buy fertilizers for her farmland and use a portion of it to pay for labor costs and land plowing. She hopes this loan will enable her to earn more income from the current business so as to fulfill her dream to have a decent car for the family to use in the future.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
