A loan of $1,450 helped to purchase carrot seeds and other farming supplies.

Mariela's story

Mariela is a hardworking young woman. She is 20 years old and lives in the town of San Pedro in Mizque Province in Cochabamba Department. She has a child , however the father left them because of an accident. Now she alone supports and feeds her young child.

This season, due to a natural drought disaster, her small parcel of onions did not mature well. The disaster caused the income she was expecting to drop.

Mariela is a very loved and respected person in her community because of her dedication to her child and her work. At times she even has to hire out as a farm day laborer to earn a little money and thus support her child. She is requesting a loan to buy carrot seeds, bean seeds, chemical and organic fertilizer and agrochemicals in order to produce more and thereby increase production. This will improve her earnings and insure her child a better quality of life and the ability to attend school in a better situation. The loan will greatly help her child and her in the hard work she does.
