A loan of $775 helped to purchase compost and fertilizer.

Jose Manuel's story

Jose is 33 years old. He says that he feels like a young man of twenty because he is very hard working and has a strong desire to get ahead in life. He lives in Camaná, a city known for its warm and welcoming climate and beautiful beaches as well as its well-developed agriculture, which includes the cultivation of rice, corn, beans, and others. The fishing industry is also well-developed and it is a city where one can eat very delicious typical dishes, especially “Chupe de Camarones” (Peruvian shrimp chowder). Jose lives with his wife and they have two children. He loves his children very much and dedicates his life to them. He strives to get them ahead because he wants them to be better than himself and above all, he wants them to be good people. When he has free time, he really enjoys playing football with his neighbors and friends from his neighborhood. But more than anything, he enjoys sharing a delicious plate of “Chupe de Camarones”. Jose did not have sufficient resources to complete his education beyond secondary school but he would have very much liked to study for a university degree.

Jose works day to day on his small plot of land where he is dedicated to farming. He works about ten hours, and most importantly, he always keeps an eye on the watering and care of the crops. He feels that his business is going well because he is very responsible and he enjoys being a farmer.
Jose is very grateful for the Kiva loans. Thanks to the help they have provided, he will be able to purchase compost and fertilizer for the care of his crops, which will allow him to have a good harvest and most importantly, improve his quality of life. In this way, he will continue working and be able to realize his greatest dream: “To improve his family’s quality of life and provide his children with a good education”.
