A loan of $775 helped to buy a small oven, cake stands, platters, and some supplies.

Julia Bacilia's story

Julia, 48, lives in Cañete, Imperial District with her beloved husband and her 7-year-old daughter. Julia is a friendly, hardworking, enthusiastic person who works tirelessly with her husband to sustain their family. As a child, she worked to support her parents and siblings; so although she would have liked to pursue a professional career, she couldn't do so. In her free time, she loves to cook and sometimes makes a delicious, traditional chili pepper chicken dish to share with her family.

With much effort, enthusiasm, and her husband's support, Julia started her small business selling cakes two years ago. She begins preparing the cakes early in the morning and works about 10 hours a day. She loves her job, and her customers come back for her friendly demeanor and her delicious products.

Julia is very grateful to Kiva lenders whose support will allow her to buy a small oven, cake stands, platters, and some ingredients and supplies needed for her business. This way she hopes to increase her sales and income, which she wants to use in the near future to build a house with good materials that will assure her daughter's well-being. Her current home is made of plywood, plastic, matting, and cardboard.
