A loan of $400 helped to improve his house.

Jose Manuel's story

Jose is a 21 year old young man who lives in the city of Ica. The city is known for its warm and welcoming climate. Farming takes place in the city, especially cotton, grapes, and asparagus crops, among others, are cultivated.

When he has free time he likes to play soccer with his friends in the neighborhood. However, most of the time he likes to spend time with his family. He has two little ones, ages five and two. He adores and loves them a lot. He wishes for them to be better than he is. Most of all he wants to give them a decent life.

Due to his small amount of financial resources, he only went to high school. However, he would have liked to have had a university education.

Jose works day to day as a “mototaxi” [three wheeled motorized vehicle] driver. With the fruit of his work he is able to pay the household expenses. He works around 10 hours a day, and he can provide service for up to 40 customers daily. He believes that it is going well for him in his business because he is nice to his customers. Mostly it is because he always works with good cheer.

Jose is very grateful to the Kiva lenders. Thanks to the help they have given him he will be able to make improvements to his home. He will reinforce the roof because it is made of mats and reeds. He will buy roofing sheets in order to be able to cover it. With that he will have a better quality of life. He will be able to continue working in order to make his biggest dream come true: “To have a house made of solid material and to give his children a good education.”
