A loan of $775 helped to purchase yucca seeds and bags of fertilizers.

Jaime's story

Jaime is 33 years old and a single father of two children, ages 7 and 4. Together they live in a rustic home, but it is theirs, located in a native community in the central jungle.

He works in agriculture and has spent all of his life surrounded by plants. Currently, he has five parcels of land that the community offered him. On those, he produces coffee, plantains, and yuccas (native tubers). A week ago, he concluded the last phase of the coffee harvest. For that reason, he is now thinking of cultivating yucca. "The price of yuccas is good, each kilo is 1 sol (Peruvian currency) and 20 cents" he mentions. Yuccas are profitable and they sell during each month of the year, because all the local people eat them daily. The advantage Jaime has is that every buyer comes to his community to acquire products, so he saves in transportation.

This is his fifth loan with MFP and he is one of the most enthusiastic members of the communal bank "Las Hormiguitas." Jaime will invest the money in planting a parcel of yuccas. He will purchase seeds and bags of fertilizer.
