Olinda's story

Olinda is 37 years old. She has two children, aged 15 and 2. Her partner is Walter, whom she plans to marry soon. Olinda and her family live in her aunt's hose in the community of Huaylahuichan.

She has her own land where she plants peas, potatoes and corn. “Other months I also plant flowers and lettuce, when I have available land", she says. Olinda says that sometimes with the corn crop she only makes back what she has invested. “This is because of the frosts and diseases and because of not knowing how to apply the insecticides", she adds. But with the peas, she has no complaints. In addition, she earns more income selling guinea pigs, which she has done for 5 years. Now, Olinda will take her oldest son to the city of Lima so he start going to school there. That is why she is working so hard to meet her goals.

This is her 14th loan with MFP and she feels very committes to making her monthly payments on time. She belongs to the “Nueva Esperanza de Huaylahuichán” communal bank, where she collaborates in the activities preparing food, making her savings on time and more.

Olinda will invest this money in buying pea seeds and bags of fertilizer. All of the loan is for farming purposes.
