A loan of $550 helped to purchase fertilizer, gramoxone, and other supplies to grow yuca and corn.

Desiderio's story

Desiderio is 61 years old. He is married and has two children. He is full of energy and eagerness to work. He has forty years of farming experience and he grows mostly corn and yuca. He learned the trade from his parents, since that was all they knew how to do. He never went to school, because farming and tending to the livestock were the priority.

He boards a bus in his community and travels thirty minutes until he arrives at the city, where he purchases the products he needs, and later goes back home. The loan he is requesting is to purchase five sacks of fertilizer, which cost $58 each, a gallon of gramoxone, which costs $19, and other supplies for farming 1.7 acres of yuca and 1.7 acres of corn. He will use the investment to purchase all the supplies at once, so that he can get a lower price. This will allow him to obtain a good harvest and enough income so that he can pay off his loan on time.

Desiderio intends to keep working hard so that he can save up and purchase two milk cows, in order to obtain extra income and feed his family.
