A loan of $575 helped a member to buy fertilizers for his farmland.

Lak's Group's story

Lak is 39 years old and he has five children, three daughters and two sons, all of whom are dependent on him and are in school. He is a villager from a rural area located in the Dambae district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, where rice farming is the main source of the family’s income. He supplements his income by planting cassava on 1.5 hectares of land. He has been in this business for fourteen years. He earns approximately 15,300 KHR per day from the current business but he can manage to save about 11,300 KHR each day.

Lak has been with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, for two cycles and successfully paid back the loans, while his group members have been from the first cycle. He is leading the group to apply for a loan with VisionFund. As the leader, Lak is going to use his portion to buy fertilizers for his farmland and use a portion of it to plant rubber tree seedlings to earn more income. He hopes to increase his income so as to improve his family's living conditions.
