A loan of $975 helped to buy yeast, milk, sugar, salt, butter and flour.

Sonia Merlene's story

Sonia lives in a house on her property near Libertad. Her home is a mixed construction and the only utilities it has are water and light. She earns her living selling "Huevitos Chilenos" ( Chilean eggs) at fairs or mobilely around the city. She decided to start the business to help her husband with the household expenses since his job alone did not meet them. At first it was very difficult since she was the homemaker and did not know how to get by with this sort of work. However, with time she started to gain experience and get ahead. She has been working in this business for a number of years and regularly goes out selling with the help of her children.

"Chilean Eggs," despite their name, are an Ecuadorian sweet. Their preparation time is quite long but they are delicious when they are cooked. For their preparation you use yeast, milk, sugar, salt, butter and flour. Once this is mixed together you fry them in hot oil and serve them covered with chocolate, sprinkles or flavoured icing. This sweet is very tempting for both children and adults.

She will use the loan to buy the ingredients and some pots for cooking and sales. In the future she hopes to finish building her house.
