Benedicta is married and has four children who are of school age. They live in their own home where they occupy one small room with brick walls. The house is located in the February 16th District in the city of El Alto.

Benedicta only has an elementary school education. She currently earns income by working more than 10 hours a day as a housekeeper at a private residence. This enables her to cover the cost of food and basic services for her family. For this reason, she is requesting a loan so that she can buy a computer to help with her children’s studies. Such an item will be useful for their daily homework, but she is not able to buy one with the little that she earns.

Benedicta dreams of improving her income so that she can cover her children’s educational expenses and provide them with a better quality of life. This is the first time she has requested a loan from IMPRO and Kiva.

Additional Information

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
