A loan of $1,000 helped to buy water in cans and parts for car repairs.

Johanna Monserrate's story

In the town of Rocafuerte, the members of the Patito Donald cooperative bank meet every fifteen days. This area is famous for the candies made by the townspeople, which are known throughout the whole country, and for the quality of its friendly and hard-working residents.

This is the place where Johanna, 30, lives with her partner with whom she has two daughters aged 5 and 1. Her husband has a car, which he uses to provide transportation services.

Our friend takes out a loan for her husband and for a small business she has selling canned water that she has in her house. She tells us that she will use part of the loan to make repairs to her husband’s vehicle, given that it is the most important source of income they have for getting ahead. In general, her husband works every day of the week, but much more on weekends when there is the most activity in the city. He transports people to the countryside or places they want to move to. He has been carrying out this work for more than 8 years, which, thank God, allows him to put food on the table on a daily basis.

This loan is for the purchase of cans of water to sell and repairs for her husband’s car. She has been in the cooperative bank for 4 years, and likes it because of the help they give her with the loans.

Her dream is to buy a new car.
