A loan of $2,025 helped to buy materials to expand his hydroponic greenhouse and buy seeds.

Carlos Manuel's story

Carlos is a 37-year-old man who lives with his wife and children in San Rafael de Florencia de San Carlos, in Alajuela province. This rural community presents a lot of opportunities for development through agricultural activities. The area has a hot climate which allows people to grow certain fruits that develop strongly such as mangos, melons and other native fruit. Livestock fattening is another major business in this area.

The town of Florencia is noted for its national parks and its extensive variety of flora and fauna.

Carlos set up a hydroponic greenhouse where he grows lettuce, tomatoes and sweet peppers. He now needs to extend it over a larger area and buy seeds, chemicals, sand, plastic irrigation pipes, etc. His income is the only one his family has. He has two young children and he would like to continue his university studies. His income depends on this project.

Carlos is requesting 1,000,000 colones to achieve his goal. He belongs to SCSAR community loan company and this will be his first loan. He is very grateful for the opportunities to access loans that this gives him and the fact that he will be able to carry out his projects.
