A loan of $600 helped to purchase cheese, sweets and candy.

Ramon Antonio's story

The members of Agrupación 24 De Mayo Communal Bank meet every 15 days in Rocafuerte canton. This place is known for the delicious sweets its inhabitants prepare, which are appreciated throughout the country.

Don Ramón lives here. He is 47 years old and lives with his common-law partner with whom he has three children, two of whom are now adults and a daughter, 5, who is in school and the only one who still lives with them. His wife is a trader.

Our friend earns his living so that his family has all it needs, as a trader, just like his wife. While he sells cheese at a small stall in the local market, his wife sells candy and sweets outside a school in the town. Don Ramón tells us that this is their only means of getting ahead. He works from Thursday to Sunday because that is when he makes most of his sales and his wife works from Monday to Friday, during the mornings. He has had his business for more than 8 years.

He will use the loan to purchase cheese and sweets and candy for his wife. He has been in his communal bank through two loan cycles and he likes it because of the help he gets through loans.

His dream is that his business will expand and that he will continue moving ahead.
