A loan of $625 helped a member to buy fertilizers for his farmland.

Heang's Group's story

Originally from a rural area of the Ou Reang Ov district of Kampong Cham province, Cambodia, Heang is a 63-year-old widower. He is the father of one son who works as a phone repairer to make a living.

Rice farming has been the only source for earning a living and for his family’s income for forty years. The main challenge is the lack of water supply for the crop yields in his business.

Heang is the group leader of three members who live in the same village. Now he is leading his group to apply for the first microloan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund.

As the group leader, he is going to use his portion to buy fertilizers for his farmland and use a portion of it to buy materials for his son’s business. He hopes this loan will enable his family to make more income to improve their standard of living.
